2020 A Year of Military Awakening

This year 2020 has thrown up unprecedented strategic security challenges for India with significant lessons for the future. While the world reeled under the impact of the pandemic, India was combating the ongoing war on two fronts as never before -the war against Chinese Pandemic and the conflict against Chinese Himalayan intrusions.

Army inducts indigenous bridge laying system

In continuation of efforts towards Atmanirbharta andin close coordination with the private industry and DRDO, the Indian Army has inducted three sets of 10-metre short span bridges, which were formally handed over on 29 December 2020 at the Talegaon facility of Larsen & Toubro Limited. 

The equipment will meet the important requirement of providing mobility to own forces by speedy bridging of gaps during operations.                                                

Maiden Flight Trial of Air Droppable Container

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) along with Indian Navy conducted the successful maiden test trial of ‘SAHAYAK-NG’ India’s first indigenously designed and developed Air Dropped Container from IL 38SD aircraft (Indian Navy) off the coast of Goa.

The trial was conducted by Indian Navy to enhance its operational logistics capabilities and provide critical engineering stores to ships which are deployed more than 2000 km from the coast. It reduces the requirement of ships to come close to the coast to collect spares and stores. 

Mission Sagar III - INS Kiltan Arrives At Sihanoukville, Cambodia

Indian Naval Ship Kiltan arrived at Sihanoukville Port, Cambodia on 29 December 2020 as part of ongoing Mission Sagar-III. The ship will deliver 15 Tons of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Stores for the flood-affected people of Cambodia, which will be handed over to Cambodia’s National Disaster Management Committee (NDMC). This assistance is reflective of the deep people-to-people connect between the two friendly countries.

Indian Army’s Outreach on Emerging Technologies

In a major push to support Atmanirbharta and to promote an innovation ecosystem, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), conducted an outreach webinar for startups in emerging technologies. 89 startups pitched their indigenously developed innovations, ideas and proposals to Indian Army through virtual presentations in webinar format from 17 to 28 Dec 2020.

Kalashinikov completes STERLA 10M tests

Kalashnikov successfully finished testing of Guided surface-to-air Missile for Anti-missile defense STRELA 10M.

Tests successfully completed on the Donghuz polygon in Russia.

Concern Kalashnikov has started serial production in the interest of the Russian MoD. It has bright prospects in terms of  export.

The 9M333 missile is designed to destroy low-flying targets like planes and helicopters, all kinds of parachuted or moduled optical targets and remotely piloted flying vehicles and cruise missiles.

Airbus delivers the first A400M to the Belgian

The Belgian Air Force has taken delivery of its first of seven Airbus A400M military transport aircraft. The aircraft was handed over to the customer at the A400M Final Assembly Line in Seville (Spain) and subsequently performed its ferry flight to the 15th Wing Air Transport in Melsbroek (Belgium), where the aircraft will be based.
 
This A400M, known as MSN106, will be operated within a binational unit composed of a total of eight aircraft, seven from the Belgian Air Force and one from the Luxembourg Armed Forces.
