Indian Army, on June 26, released a request for information (RFI) for ballistic helmets for Indian Army. According to the RFI, “Indian Army seeks Normal and Commander’s Ballistic Helmet with desired protection level in lightest weight so that the soldier can operate with maximum combat efficiency during prolonged operations with adequate protection against Small Arms fire.”

The helmet is expected to be as light as possible with protection against “7.62x39 mm MSC/ HSC from 10m”.

“The Ballistic Helmet must provide comfort for prolonged operations and provide 360 deg grip around the head. The inner padding must enable air circulation and resist bacterial infestation. Ease of adjustment and removal when required during prolonged operations,” the RFI said.

It also expected to have provision for mounting various sight instruments.

The request for proposal is expected to be out around next February. The 1,00,000 helmets will be  procured in a phased manner, and all deliveries must be made “within twelve (12) months to thirty six (36) months from the day of signing of the contract.”

The RFI will follow Defence Procurement Procedure 2016 (amended Nov 2019).
